Overview

Restoran Auntie Sim Kitchen私房菜 stands as a noteworthy Cantonese dining destination nestled in the heart of Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya. Located at 24, Jalan SS 21/58, this restaurant offers an intimate private kitchen experience that appeals to both local food enthusiasts and those seeking refined Cantonese flavors.

The menu presents a rich variety of classic and innovative dishes, highlighting fresh seafood and delicate home-style preparations. Signature offerings such as the King Coconut with Avocado and the Double Boiled Soup with Fish Head showcase a balance between tradition and modern creativity. The Abalone Yee Sang and Braised Fish Maw & Prosperity Fatt emphasize festive Cantonese culinary art, while the Steamed Tofu with Spinach and Prawn Noodles (Sarng Har Mee) provide comfort with finesse.

Diners consistently praise the kitchen's ability to bring out deep flavors, particularly evident in the claypot braised pork tendon and garlic fried pork belly—each dish crafted with care to deliver authentic texture and taste. The Teowchew Traditional Prawn and Sweet & Sour Pork add dimension to the menu, reflecting a breadth of regional influences within the Cantonese spectrum.

The dining space complements the food well, fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere suited for both casual meals and celebratory gatherings. With attentive and personable service led by the restaurant's captain, Alice, guests frequently mention the welcoming and sociable environment that enhances their overall experience.

The restaurant targets a diverse clientele—from families reminiscing home-cooked flavors to food connoisseurs appreciating meticulous preparation and fresh ingredients. While some find certain dishes on the pricier side, the quality and portion often justify the investment, particularly during promotional periods that offer added value.

One aspect worth noting is the kitchen’s approach to freshness. For instance, while the steamed fish dishes emphasize natural flavors and freshness, slight oversights in preparation, such as residual scales, have been observed. This points to a kitchen continuously refining its craft to elevate the dining experience.

Overall, Restoran Auntie Sim Kitchen私房菜 delivers a thoughtful blend of Cantonese culinary heritage and heartfelt hospitality. It remains a compelling choice for those seeking authentic flavors with a personal touch in Selangor’s vibrant dining scene.

In conjunction with their 15 years anniversary and 15% discount, we visited Aunty Sim private dine at Damansara Utama. They are also having other promotion like RM118 for two XL crabs, which is quite worth the money, given it's freshness and taste. Almost all dishes are their signature and we ordered the claypot braised pork tendon, garlic fried pork belly, steam fish, egg and vege in total. The pork tendon is braised well with deep flavor and the garloc pork belly is fried until crispy but a little tad salty. The egg and vege are also properly done with the right doneness. I have mixed feelings for the fish. We ordered the dragon tiger grouper, which was very fresh to be honest. But the fish was slightly over steamed, and the lack of ginger feels something is missing. Although I understand the owner's intention to highlight the freshness without the need of ginger, the fish however wasn't properly clean thoroughly especially at the head and many scales are leftover on the skin, hence there's a slight fishy-ness and unpleasant eating experience for the parts nearer to the dorsal fins and collar. The service is superb, with the waiter and owner constantly checking on our needs. This deserves a compliment. Prices are on the higher end if without the discount but once awhile we should appreciate the effort to prepare good food.

The ‘overall’ taste is definitely above-average but do check out the receipt that I am sharing. Most items are over priced. I ordered the homemade prawn cake (6pcs; premium price of RM78; pic no. 5) bcos I remembered that my dad used to cook this for me when I was young, it’s a ‘easy dish’ for children . This dish is just like 2 plates of dim sum and the maximum cost should not exceed RM30-RM40 but they charged RM78 excluding tax… By the way, the braised soon hock in claypot has too many fine bones so it was really difficult to eat. The taste is good though… Last but not least, skip the pig stomach soup. It is totally not worth it…

Frequently passed this eatery but never had the opportunity to enter and sample the fare. Today, feeling too weary to walk a long distance, I ended up here with my spouse. Two people, we ordered tofu vegetables and squid! Wow... The food was truly exceptional!!! Our appetites were so robust, we neglected to photograph our meal. Only empty plates remain. ALICE provided excellent service, and we enjoyed a delightful dinner. Thank you, Auntie Sim. We will return.

Exceptionally unique and colossal. The fish was soaked in garlic cloves, leeks and leek oil. It's an incredible pot of flavour and satisfaction. Crabs were abundant and noodles were eggy and garlicky. Loved the coconut avocado pudding/shake as it was very organic and I did not taste anything synthetic like immediate sugars. Pure coconut. Pure avocado. Would definitely come again.

First visit for Saturday lunch to try their set lunch. Ordered Cantonese hor fun, meehoon fried bitter gourd and sliced fish fillet in spring onion n ginger rice. All dishes were good, full of wok hei and the right seasoning. I especially like the fish fillet as the cut is thick and it's fresh n juicy. As an afterthought I ordered their king coconut with avocado dessert without checking the price. Big mistake ,tastes great no doubt but it's RM21/portion .(Yes I am a cheapskate) Overall it is still a good experience and they also have a set menu for 3-4 pax. Parking is definitely an issue.

Good choices of dishes which are different from the standard Chinese restaurant. Teochew style food are specially delicious, I like the Fried Oysters with very generous portion of oysters unlike other which only eggs and flour. Lap Mei Fun also worth to try. Services are also very good and accommodating for hosting my family dinner event. Thumb up to Alice for arranging everything nicely
